The nominations were released Tuesday, with scores of artists and industry professionals up for prizes in 28 categories.

Manor nominees include Vancouver indie-rockers Said the Whale, who lead the pack with four nominations, while B.C. folk-rocker Dan Mangan, Manitoba singer-songwriter Daniel ROA and Saskatchewan alt- country outfit Deep Dark Woods have three nods. Other prominent nominees include Marianas Trench, Carly Rae Jepsen, John K. Samson, Doc Walker and Gordie Johnson.

The awards will be handed out Sept. 30 in Regina, Sask., as part of the BreakOut West weekend.

On June 30, 2012, the band will hit the stage at the historic Mae Wilson Theatre in Moose Jaw, SK, the same location where the album was recorded last summer.

Created in the early 16th century, the violin has become an instrument synonymous with classical music and the baroque era. Once considered to be the instrument of choice amongst the lower class it eventually garnered the attention of many famous composers and soon thereafter was looked upon with prestige and grace. Since that time, the violin has maintained a steady home in the world of classical music…until now.

Enter Moose Jaw native Scott Benson, a violin vir- tuoso engrained with a youthful passion for tradi- tional Celtic music (and of course the fiddle) who has not only taken the local community by storm…he has embraced it. Following the success of his acclaimed “black” album, Scott would soon join forces with fellow Moose Jaw citizen, Jared Robinson – pianist and owner of recording studio, Nebulus Entertainment. Jared was not only equipped with musical experience he also brought along with him a keen eye for design and a true talent in social media.

Understanding their strengths and focusing on their mutual love for music the two musicians began to work together and came up with the idea to produce a concept album for an unwritten film that featured an unde- cided ending. The addition of Cameron Church (bass), Jared Dormer (drums) and Cade Anderson (guitar) would become the final pieces in their puzzle and shortly thereaf- ter, the debut orchestral rock album from the Scott Benson Band would come to life. -Taron Cochrane
